Collaboration with Ras Al Khaimah Prison
Following discussions with representatives from the Ras Al Khaimah Prison for men, the Foundation has begun an initiative to refurbish the library as well as to collect books in all languages that will serve both an educational and recreational purpose for the inmates. The Foundation is also in the process of developing professional development courses that will be offered to the inmates to improve their English language and work skills.
Sponsorship of Gulf Comparative Education Society (GCES)
Since the establishment of the Gulf Comparative Education Society (GCES) in 2008, the Al Qasimi Foundation has been working closely with the Society providing financial and administrative support for its activities. The Foundation is the primary sponsor of the annual symposia including the publication of its conference proceedings.
Third Annual Education Policy Forum Series
The Al Qasimi Foundation and Middlesex University are organizing the third annual Education Policy Forum Series. The Series is designed to bring together key players in the education sector to discuss and debate a number of topics that have emerged as major issues of concern to the general public and the education community. They will attempt to create an open discussion of these issues in order to generate new ideas and raise awareness of the many concerns of people involved in education in the UAE.
A Focus on English Language Learning
In conjunction with the Ministry of Education Zone in Ras Al Khaimah, the Foundation is helping to raise standards in English Language learning. The Foundation will be conducting a language training course for Government School English Language Teachers, identified by the Education Zone. In addition, a short course of English classes is being provided to a group of students identified as gifted and talented in Maths and Sciences.
Ras Al Khaimah Teachers’ Network
Ras Al Khaimah Teachers’ Network is a social and professional networking site set up by the Foundation. It is a forum where teachers from Ras Al Khaimah, across the UAE and around the world can come together to share resources, ideas and best practice. IIt is hoped that the network will continue to grow throughout 2012, fostering a professional community within the Emirate and beyond.
