In Education, Gulf Women Don’t Focus on Jobs

Women in Arab Gulf countries are enthusiastic about higher ed, but seek it for the sake of personal fulfillment and not in the expectation of getting professional qualifications, according to a new study by Woohyang Chloe Sim to be published later this year by the Al Qasimi Foundation.

Another study co-authored by Elizabeth Bruce focusing on the evolving gender roles in Saudi Arabia notes that "Women clearly dominate the university level in Saudi Arabia, with 37% of women reaching the tertiary level, compared to 23% of men, and that women also get 79% of the Ph.D.’s awarded each year."
