The 3rd Annual [Ras Al Khaimah] Fine Arts Festival allows people to learn more about Emirati, Arab, and foreign artists and filmmakers. This festival was sponsored by Al Qasimi Foundation and has three nights: opening night, film night, and fine arts [night].

The Fine Arts event was held at the Ras Al Khaimah National Museum. Steven Rice, CEO, Ras Al Khaimah Tourist Development Authority, said that “it’s a nice place because it is historic and has a lot of culture.” The evening had perfect weather allowing people to enjoy the art. Also, they used the entire museum to display the paintings and sculptures, so guests enjoyed the museum and the art together.

The food was delicious and included different types of cakes, cheeses, teas, and cold drinks. The people were amazing as they were free to walk around, and to view and discuss the art en plein air. Shaikha Al Ahmed, a fashion designer, said, “A lot of the Emirati girls were wearing my abayas, and I’m feeling proud to be in this event as an Emirati designer.”

Anastasia Mak, a fine artist from Chicago, was visiting Ras Al Khaimah for the first time. She was drawing the historical village and said, “Seeing people and meeting them in events like these is amazing, and I really enjoy being in this city.” This festival gathers a lot of different nationalities in one event for the same purpose. Also, the event allows the artists to [present] a price for their sculpture or paintings.

My favorite painting was by a Canadian/Lebanese artist, Liza Sobh; her oil painting [is called] Endless Wonder (2013). I liked this painting because it looks so real and the eyes are drawn perfectly with professional hands.
