Professional Development Certificate Ceremony, Fall 2011
15/12/2011
On Wednesday 14 December the Al Qasimi Foundation held a certificate ceremony to mark the graduation of a record number of teachers from the professional development courses provided by the Foundation. The ceremony was held at the Ras Al Khaimah Chamber of Commerce Auditorium.
The 95 teachers, school principals and Education Zone supervisors were graduating from 4 different professional development courses that have been run by the Al Qasimi Foundation over the last 12 weeks. The courses included educational technology for 21st century teaching, technology for school leadership, action research and a course in classroom management.
In order to graduate from each course participants had to attend all 5 of the 3-hour workshops and complete assignments such as building their own classroom blog, or school website. Teachers attending the action research course undertook a short action research project to identify and solve a problem that they identified within their own schools, while teachers attending the classroom management workshop wrote sample behaviour management policies, reflected on their emotional responses to student’s actions in the classroom, and debated the role of parents in Ras Al Khaimah’s schools. The teachers who participated in the RAK-Swiss Teacher Exchange Program were also awarded certificates.
Mr Ibrahim Al Bagham, the Chief of Education Operations at RAK Education Zone attended as the guest of honour. Mr Bagham, together with Dr Natasha Ridge – the Foundation’s Executive Director, presented the participants with their certificates of excellence. Afterwards Mr Al Bagham gave a few words of encouragement to the audience.
The event was a great success, enjoyed by all. The Al Qasimi Foundation is already looking forward to the next semester when more professional development courses will begin in mid-February.
