Sheikh Saqr Student Enrichment Program

The Sheikh Saqr Student Enrichment Program supports the academic and personal development of talented Emirati secondary school students and prepares them to undertake university studies in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and overseas. The program is comprised of supplementary English language instruction, leadership and skill development workshops, and support during the university application process. Students are invited to participate in the program based on results from their end-of-year exams and teacher recommendations. The program includes students in grades 10, 11, and 12.

  • Grade 10: Students begin the program with supplementary English language instruction at the pre-intermediate or intermediate level based on their placement exam results. English classes meet twice per week throughout the academic year and include hands-on activities, group work, and academic exercises. Special attention is placed on helping students develop a sense of professionalism, identify personal strengths, and set realistic goals.
  • Grade 11: The second year of the program consists of monthly activities, workshops, and events to help students decide whether or not they want to pursue their bachelor’s degrees overseas. Examples of programming include visits to universities in the United Arab Emirates, information sessions on studying abroad, leadership and personal development sessions, cultural events, and special community-building activities. In addition, students have the option to continue their participation in the supplemental English language classes, including IELTS preparation for those with advanced English language skills.*
  • Grade 12: The final year of the program is focused on supporting students who want to study overseas with the university application process. This includes helping students to identify potential universities based on their interests, connect to appropriate resources, and prepare for entrance examinations like the ACT. Special emphasis is placed on building students’ intercultural skills and preparing them to study in a new educational system. In addition, interested students can also be matched with a mentor who has studied in their desired country.

* An optional component of the program is an overseas academic experience in the United States or United Kingdom between Grades 11 and 12. Eligible Emirati students must have demonstrated exceptional participation in the Sheikh Saqr Student Enrichment Program and plan to study overseas for university. Consideration for such opportunities is competitive and will be based on a separate application and availability of funds.
