Welcome to the 2024 Education-to-Employment Pathways (EdEm) Forum, where we explore education-career pathways, opportunities, and synergies. In today’s evolving workforce, understanding the intersection of academic achievements and career opportunities is more important than ever. This event brings together educators, career professionals, and industry leaders to explore innovative pathways, uncover opportunities, and foster synergies that drive professional growth.
As part of the Forum, we are pleased to share three publications by the Al Qasimi Foundation, delving into the crossroads of education and employment in the UAE. Additionally, you can download the official program guide below!
Employment Pathways or Empty Promises? Student Perceptions of University and Career Center Support in Facilitating Employment in the UAE
This paper examines how UAE universities and career centers support students’ transition to employment. While helpful, they often do not sufficiently aid students in acquiring "real-world" experience or accessing job opportunities. Students found faculty, peers, and alumni most useful. Recommendations include formalizing mentorships and improving university-industry ties.
Through the Looking Glass: Applying a Gender Lens to Unemployment in Ras Al Khaimah
This paper explores gender disparities in employment in Ras Al Khaimah, focusing on Emiratization efforts like the Nafis Program. Despite its success, 5,000 Emiratis remain unemployed. The study highlights gender-specific challenges and offers recommendations to boost workforce participation for Emirati men and women.
Is it All About the Money? Motivations and Preferences for Work Across Emirati and Non-Emirati Youth in the UAE
This paper examines the work preferences of UAE youth. Key factors include flexibility, growth opportunities, and meaningful work. Emirati youth prioritize working close to home and flexible management, while non-Emirati youth focus more on career advancement and financial stability. Understanding these differences is crucial for organizations aiming to attract young talent.
