    Overview

The Student Development Department works with local Emirati students to help them realize their passions, more fully engage in school, explore future career pathways through work experiences, and apply to competitive universities in the United Arab Emirates and abroad. The department hosts events such as Future Career Forums to inspire and encourage students to take practical steps through further education to realize their passions and potential. In collaboration with the Ministry of Education, the department also supports school counselors in understanding competitive international university student application requirements. To reach students struggling to succeed in traditional school environments, the department also implements co-curricular programs at local schools for at-risk students.

    Hands-on-Learning

Hands-on-Learning (HOL) is a program for at-risk secondary school students developed in Australia and adapted for use in the UAE by the Al Qasimi Foundation in 2014 for implementation at schools in Ras Al Khaimah. This program re-engages students in school by supporting them in improving their behavior, building self-confidence, learning new skills, completing hands-on projects, and collaborating better with peers and instructors. In each HOL class, students set behavior focus plans, complete projects, prepare and eat a meal, and have an English lesson focused on everyday communication.  An HOL in a Box toolkit has recently been produced for roll-out in a larger number of schools.
